Work or live in Canada after you graduate

If you are currently in your last semester of studying in Canada, or you are about to begin your last semester, this is a good time period to begin thinking about changing your current student status to working status in Canada.

Applying for Post Graduate Work Permit is a significant step that requires special attention to the requirements and the process procedure.

Before you apply, make sure you meet the following:

  • You recognize the potential reasons for denial in PGWP and you are confident you will not receive the refusal.
  • You are aware of the deadlines for applying to PGWP and its procedure.
  • You understand when you can and cannot work before or after applying for PGWP. Since the requirements are very strict once the status is changed, it is significant to make sure your immigration status is not under validation as this will result in refusal. The student can work part-time prior to receiving the letter of graduation. However, as soon as the student receives the letter of graduation they must stop working immediately. The student can begin working again once he/she applies for PGWP and receives the letter of acknowledgment.
